What is HBOT?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is medical procedure which is conducted in hyperbaric chamber. During the treatment patient breaths 100% oxygen while he is in high pressurized surrounding (hyperbaric chamber). In that conditions, oxygen becomes soluble in blood. HBOT is worldwide recognizes therapy for different conditions. Main list of indications is approved by Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
In our polyclinic we provide HBOT in the state of the art monoplace chamber by US manufacturer (Sechrist).

Indications
HBOT is reimburssed through Croatian Health Inssurance Fund for following conditions:
- decompression sickness
- gas embolism
- gas gangrene
- sudden deafness
- sudden blindness
- disbaric osteonecrosis
- Bell’s palsy
- glaucoma
- osteomyelits
- diabetic foot (Wagner II)
- other chronic wounds
- flaps
- subacute ischaemia
- severe anemia
- tissue radionecrosis
- ulcerous colitis and Crohn’s disease
- Mb Burger, Mb Reynaud

Contraindications
There are some conditions when HBOT is contraindicated or further assessment is needed.
They can include:
- emphyzema
- infections of upper respiratory tract
- abnormal X ray of chest
- thoracic surgery
- high fever
- convulsion
- non treated malignant disease
If patient has hypertension it has to be controlled so the patient cannot go to chamber if pressure is higher than 140/80 mmHg.
What is necessary for treatment

Medical exam is necessary before treatment. Medical doctor examines the patients, assess him and discuss all doubts. For first exam patients have to come with medical documentation and X rays of chest and spyrometry.
